Project management in EU-funded research - ESPRIT and Telematics Applications programmes
The workshops, entitled "Project management workshops for coordinators of Fourth Framework Programme ESPRIT and Telematics Applications projects", will be held as follows:
- Brussels, Belgium: 17 June 1998;
- London, United Kingdom: 23 June 1998;
- Warwick, United Kingdom: 10 July 1998;
- Amsterdam, The Netherlands: 14 July 1998.
The aim of the workshops is to assist project coordinators in improving the management and maximizing the effectiveness of their projects. The workshops will explain the roles and responsibilities of project coordinators, clarify questions concerning European Commission requirements, discuss skills and techniques for efficient project management, provide practical advice on reports, cost statements and exploitation issues, and discuss how to avoid pitfalls and solve problems. Each workshop will be addressed by a European Commission official responsible for contracts, subject to availability.
The main topics to be addressed will include:
- What makes European Commission projects different from those usually encountered in industry and academia?
- Coordinating Commission projects;
- Efficient use of meetings in managing the project;
- The formal aspects of running a Commission RTD project;
- How to use the Commission's formal progress review as a tool for good project management;
- An insight into the problems and conflicts that can arise when different types of organization and nationality come together in a project;
- Ingredients for the successful management of Commission RTD projects.
