Fish telemetry in Europe
Telemetry is increasingly being used by scientists to increase understanding of fundamental aspects of animal biology as a basis for the conservation and rational management of natural resources. Within aquatic ecosystems, the need to understand the complex interactions between man's activities and the environment has stimulated a multidisciplinary approach to problem-solving, and promoted technological development and innovation in the field of wildlife telemetry.
The aim of this conference will be to integrate the scientific knowledge of both aquatic scientists and engineers who are actively involved with the development and application of telemetry techniques to biological studies and management. The main topics to be covered are:
- Methodology and new technology;
- Migration and behaviour;
- Fisheries management;
- Habitat utilization and ecology;
- Habitat restoration and enhancement;
- Aquaculture.
A second announcement is due to be published in September 1998, at which point those interested in presenting papers or posters at the conference will have the opportunity to submit abstracts.
