Workshop builds Internet gateways

A workshop entitled "Building National and Large Scale Internet Information Gateways" is being organised on 14 and 15 September 1999 in The Hague, The Netherlands. It is being run by the DESIRE (Development of a European Service for Information on Research and Education) project, funded by the European Commission.

The workshop aims to consider the implications of building gateways using international Web and library standards. Subjects to be addressed will include:

- Internet cataloguing;
- Metadata and Web standards;
- Internet resource and discovery;
- Tools and methods for building large-scale Internet information gateways.

DESIRE is a pan-European project promoting the use of the Web within the European research community. Supported by the European Commission, DG XIII, under the Telematics Applications programme, the project involves collaboration between partners working in ten institutes from four European countries - The Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK.
