The European Commission, DG XII, has published a call for proposals for RTD projects under the Community's specific programme in the field of training and mobility of researchers (TMR). This call refers specifically to Activity 1 of the TMR work programme (Research Networks). The objective of this activity is to encourage research teams from several countries to pool their efforts in order to conduct quality research projects and, in this context, to promote training and mobility for researchers, in particular young researchers at a post-doctoral level. The research networks will also provide the stimulus for interaction between various disciplines, the combination of different technologies, the transfer of techniques from one domain to another, the dissemination of results, and cooperation between academia and industry. As a general rule, a network will comprise at least five non-affiliated research teams representing at least three countries of the Member States of the Community or Associated States (each network must nonetheless comprise at least one research team from a Member State of the Community). Networks involving a smaller number of research teams (including twinnings) working in emerging areas of science and technology may qualify for support in exceptional cases, to the extent that they form the basis of a future larger network. As a general rule, actions in relation to the research networks will be carried out on a shared-cost basis. Organizations taking part in the network will use their own resources (national funds, private funds, etc.) to finance research work per se, but the Community will finance up to 100% of additional costs related to the creation and maintenance of the network. To facilitate the participation of organizations from Central and Eastern European countries and from the countries of the former Soviet Union, it is possible to obtain Community financial support. The terms on which third countries may take part are specified in the information document. The work programme, the information package concerning the procedures to be followed for the submission of proposals and a sample of the type of contract to be drawn up with selected candidates are available on request. The description of work undertaken under previous and associated programmes will also be provided on request. All correspondence concerning this call should be addressed to: European Commission DG XII - Science, research and development DGXII/G-2 200 rue de la Loi (MO-75 4/24) B-1049 Brussels Proposals should be submitted to the address above, or handed in at one of the offices of the Commission in the Community, or in one of the Associated States. Documentation relating to this call is also available on the CORDIS WWW server at: http://cordis.europa.eu/tmr/home.html.
