In quest of knowledge management

A new interface allows teachers to monitor the progress involved in the student learning process thereby increasing learning capacity void of socio-economic bias. This profiler tool could take on-line instruction and distance learning to new heights.

The days of archaic methods of instruction may be soon be coming to an end thanks to the Ped-Care (Pedagogical Distributed Group Care) project. Ped-Care has revamped current methods of instruction by adjusting them to technological platforms already in use. Additionally they have made up for any discrepancies caused for example by differences in time schedules and locations of teachers and students. Basically what this means is improved communication methods between students and teachers and the optimal management of that process. E-mail is merely one of the methods by which communication between learner and instructor can be managed by classifying, forwarding, or automatically answering teachers' daily incoming messages. Beyond this, however, lies the Pedagogical Pursuit and Evaluation Manager (PPEM), a working prototype, which can provide detailed information about learners by continuously monitoring their progress, interests and activity. Since students have already been classified according to their learning profile, they can receive more personalised, proactive and immediate attention accordingly. Thus, teacher overload can be avoided and learner satisfaction can be obtained through more personalised attention. PPEM is aided by the Learning Information Package Management Tool (LIMT), a web interface that supports accumulation, enrichment, update, retrieval, view and exploitation of learners' records. LIMT can also compliment other tools by providing enhanced data management of student information and compliancy standards to educational institutes. However, LIMT's applications can extend beyond realms of Virtual Campuses. It can serve a variety of purposes by integrating and storing data from a number of sources. The project's consortium offers its accumulated knowledge, research results and prototype tool to partners at a European Level, particularly in markets where there is currently limited access.
