Lipases and Lipids: Structure, specificity and applications in biocatalysis

A conference on "Lipases and Lipids: Structure, specificity and applications in biocatalysis" will be held in Como, Italy, from 17 to 20 September 1997. The conference is organized by the University of Milan, with support from the European Commission.

The main objective is to provide a comprehensive view of the state of knowledge on the structure, genetics, mechanism of action and applications of lipolytic enzymes in different fields. This meeting aims to continue the fruitful tradition of bringing together, every year, academic and industrial scientists involved in research on lipases and phospholipases, established in 1990 with support from the Community's BRIDGE and BIOTECH programmes.

The scientific sessions will cover the following topics:

- Influence of the physico-chemical behaviour of lipids on lipase activity;
- Structure and function of lipases;
- Expression and regulation of lipases;
- Molecular basis for substrate recognition;
- Microbial lipases in biocatalysis;
- Lipases of biomedical interest.
